For the love of a good book

Ξ December 20th, 2007 | → 0 Comments | ∇ books, MissMunchkin |

Growing up, I was a bookworm. I was rarely without a book in hand or at least on standby in my bag. You could probably find a backup or two in there as well.Over the last few years I lost my books for various reasons (jobs, crappy libraries, lack of funds, a baby, etc.)

Two things have happened this fall.

One being MissMunchkin has reach independent mode and spends a good share of the day not needing me. Plus, she’s sleeping through the night (mostly), so sleep deprivation is wearing off and I’m not passing out every chance I get.

Two, Mother finally let me in on a secret: Paperback Swap. Why she had been hiding such a thing, I don’t know. Now, as long as I have enough funds for a couple stamps, I can have new books! Not to mention getting rid of the ones I don’t want anymore, thus clearing up space for more . . . books!

Ahh . . . I’d forgotten the beauty of a well crafted book. Nothing in the world compares. Movies don’t even begin to match books in the ability to completely transport you into entirely different worlds, ones that can go on indefinitely. (If you can get the authors to cooperate.)

If I have to be addicted to something, it might as well be books . . .

“There is no mistaking a real book when one meets it. It is like falling in love.” – Christopher Morley

“The invitation of the bookstore occurs on so many levels, we simply must take our time. We peruse the shelves, weaving around the other customers, feeling a cold gust of rain from the open door, not really knowing what we want. Then there! …we stumble upon it…. We open to the first page, and the universe unfolds, once upon a time.” – Lewis Buzbee, The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop.

“Just the knowledge that a good book is waiting one at the end of a long day makes that day happier.” – Kathleen Norris
